On April 10, the Guild sponsored a workshop taught by Margaret Fisher, author of Seven Things That Can "Make or Break" a Sweater. There will be no more broken sweaters in our future!

With her excellent instruction, we created perfect buttonholes, grafted knitting back together (after we cut it apart), spaced our increases evenly, created tubular cast on and cast off, picked up ribbing for button bands, and perfected the art of matching decreases and increases. We even experimented with duplicate stitch--in one long, but exciting day! What a great seminar and wonderful class. Thank you Margaret!

Thumbs Up for March

Our March meeting topic is mitten thumb alternatives. We'll look at 4 different types of thumb gussets--basic, wide, palm and asymmetric. Then we will practice the Elizabeth Zimmerman thumb trick on a mitten.
You'll need to bring a swatch: CO 36 sts on size 5needles with worsted weight yarn. Join, knit in the round for a 2 inch cuff, then knit a few rounds of plain stockinette, so that you'll be ready to start the thumb. Also, bring a piece of waste yarn and a set of double pts for picking up the thumb.

Homework Due October 15

For our October 15 meeting we will be having a blocking and finishing workshop presented by Jolene from Cloverhill Yarn Shop. So it only seems appropriate since it is still September that there's homework to do before the class.

Please make 2 swatches at 17sts and 24rows (4"X4") = gauge in the pattern. (st st). Pattern calls for size US6 needles.

on one swatch on the left hand side decrease 1 st every row 12 times (for example:knit to 4 sts are left; then k2tog; k2). BO 2 st every WS row 4 times. BO.

on the other swatch knit until even with first swatch.

Bring these materials: yarn, needles, darning needle, snips, and pattern.

If you have knit the sweater already but don't know how to block (she will go over this), then please do the swatches so that you will have something to sew together. If the sweater is blocked, then bring the blocked pieces for sewing.

Increase - Choose Your Style

I stumbled across this site while looking for the most invisible style of increase on my Central Park Hoodie sleeves. There are some increases that I never heard of before. This website shows little videos of how to do each type of increase in either continental or English style. I chose the KRL and KLL. Anyone interested in making this sampler as one of our meeting topics next year?

Sit and Knit Moved to Panera

In September we moved our 1st Sunday of the month Sit and Knit to Panera in Columbia. Three of us showed up to knit and laugh away the afternoon. Our planned time was from 1 to 3. It was still busy with the lunch rush when we arrived. So I recommend next month that we go from 2 to 4 or so. There was plenty of space (and food left) after the lunch crowd left. Come join us next month.

CPH Knitalong

We started last month. We keep in touch through the Ravelry CMKG group. Several have finished the back, which was our goal for the August meeting. Some of us are working the back and 2 fronts as one piece and are approaching the armhole decreases.

The cables are interesting and can be frustrating at the same time, especially when crossed in the wrong direction. I fixed 3 or 4 of mine already. So far I found no more mistakes in the directions up to the armhole decreases. When you get to the shoulder bind off, you might encounter some cable crosses in the middle of 7 bind off stitches. Just think it through.

We plan on having some "clinic" time during the August meeting, if anyone needs help with the Hoodie.

Brown Bag, Swap Night & Central Park Hoodie Knitalong

Our next meeting is July 16. This is one of our two swap nights. Remember to bring what you don't want anymore and be sure to go home with some new stash items.

When you bring your stash, if you want to join in the brown bag surprise charity item, please put a couple of extra skeins placed in a brown bag. If you label the fiber content, it will be helpful. Finished items will be collected in October.

We will cast on for our Central Park Hoodie Knitalong. You'll need worsted weight yarn. There is a Central Park Hoodie group on Ravelry that I recommend you join. December is the completion date for this project. We can post comments and questions on the blog and we'll have help sessions at each of the next several meetings.

Spring is finally here. The chance of snow is over so--our previously scheduled February meeting will now be our April program. Margaret will be presenting a workshop on Entralac.

I suggest everyone bring the yarn of his or her choice (I don't recommend anything with mohair) and whatever needles your yarn suggests. Gauge is not critical; we're just learning the technique. Here is a handout for you to print and bring along to the meeting. See ya the 16th!

Not all of you know that I moved from Maryland last September to Vermont. This has been a dream of mine for many years! My first winter here was wonderful--lots of snow, but I never got stuck once! With the spring thaw comes Mud Season--a greater challenge than the snow, to be sure.

I have been busy teaching around the country and trying to finish up my elusive second book. Also, I released some new patterns last fall (Fair Isle Bag and Nordic Mittens). Now, Aran Winter Set (mittens and scarf) will be ready just in time for spring! My timing may not be so great, but I am happy to get it finished now! I have started a blog, which I utilize sporadically, but it shows photos of what I am up to--projects, etc.

I have been juggling around my teaching schedule and have opened up some new dates for this year. I will be hosting a workshop in Forest Hill, Maryland on May 10 and 11 (Saturday and Sunday) at my mother's B&B (http://www.geocities.com/bemyguestbandb/). If you love a Victorian atmosphere and some great cooking (my Mom's the best) while taking a knitting class, give me a call to schedule your reservation. 802-387-3025. The class will cost $150 for the two days. If you would like to stay at the B&B, you can contact Edith Brown for room rates, which include breakfast (410-838-8943).

I will be teaching the Norwegian Fana Cardigan over two days, limiting enrollment to a small group. If you have never sewn a steek or cut your knitting, this is the class for you! I love to teach this class--there are so many interesting techniques those clever Norwegians have come up with to create this gorgeous garment. Here's the class description:

The Norwegian Fana Cardigan, 12 hours Level: Intermediate to advanced (Experience with double pointed needles is helpful.) â?" The classic details and traditional construction of the Norwegian Fana Cardigan sweaters will be taught in this two-day workshop through the knitting of a small sweater. Techniques to be learned include circularly knitted body and sleeves, square and drop shoulder armholes, cut-and-sew armholes and front, knitted self -facings, buttonbands, and 2-color star, band, and checkerboard patterns. Designing one's own Fana cardigan will be discussed.

This charity knitting event at Lovelyarns is asking for our help.
This is Zander VonMarko. Some of you already know his mom, Heather. He has been diagnosed with Autism, and is attending the Fairmount school at Kennedy Krieger. Heather just found out that a contributing factor to his Autism is a toxic lead level in his organs. After he goes through a course of antibiotics to treat his infections, he can start the process of chelation (which is similar to chemotherapy) so that the lead can be purged from his system.The wonderful news in all this is that he may no longer have autistic symptoms once the lead has been removed from his body. The bad news is that these treatments cost thousands of dollars, and are not covered by Heather's insurance.

So what can you do? Easy. Just come to Stitch-n-Bitch Saturday, April 12 (any time between 11:00 and 5:30) and pay a measly $5.00 to sit with your friends and knit. All donations will be matched by Lovelyarns. AND those of you who feel like baking something for us all to purchase and enjoy, please bring something yummy. If it is a nice day, we will have the back porch open and maybe some wine to wash it all down with!

What if you can't come? We will be taking all donations at the shop up until April 12. You can mail a check, or drop a cash donation at the shop. And all donations will be matched by Lovelyarns.

March Meeting

Hello all! Just a reminder that the next meeting of the Central Maryland Knitting Guild will be on Wed. March 19th from 7-9 pm.

Everyone is excited about socks, and the guild is going to join into the craze for the month of March. Our presentation for the meeting is sock heels! Miss Cathy has been working hard on a number of heel turns to show you and I hope to have a couple myself.

Remember, all guild members in attendence are eligible for the monthly door prize. This month Miss Stacey has donated some Blue Moon Fiber sock yarn for the door prize. (Are you seeing a theme here?)

Also this month is the unveiling of our NEW GUILD LOGO!!!! T-shirts and sweatchirts with the logo will be ready for purchase a the April meeting so that you can wear your guild shirts to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in May. Be sure to be at the March meeting so that you can see what they will look like.

Howard County has cancelled all evening activities, so there will be no Feb. meeting of the Central Maryland Knitting Guild.

Our next meeting takes place on Wed. March 19th at 7pm. We will be learning about new heel turns for socks.

Our next sit 'n knit is Sunday March 2nd at the Daily Grind in Fulton, MD. We start knitting around 1pm and go until they kick us out.

Snow Policy

Super Bowl Sit 'N Knit

This Sunday February 3rd is our monthly Sit 'n Knit. We meet at the Daily Grind in Fulton. This is in the new Maple Lawn shopping center. This month we are meeting from 1-3pm. (Next month we will start staying later.)

Tangled Skein is 1 Year Old!

I just got this e-mail and thought you all would like to know about the birthday activities at 'A Tangled Skein'.

It seems like only yesterday (well, maybe last week), but it’s been a year since we opened our doors. Naturally, we view this an excuse for some first-anniversary parties and sales. So here’s our plan: Our actual anniversary date is Wednesday, Jan. 23, so we’re having an enhanced sit and stitch from 7 to 9 p.m. with special goodies and some great door prizes.

On Friday, Jan. 25, we’re taking a page from our Friday the Thirteenth book and holding a stitch-in and sale starting at 7 p.m., with great refreshments and live music. From 9 p.m. to midnight, everything in the store except classes, gift certificates and special orders will be 20 percent off.

And because first anniversaries only happen once, we’ll be continuing the 20 percent off sale throughout the weekend. But if there’s something in particular you’ve been waiting for a sale to buy, we advise you not to wait until the last minute. Lots of other people may have the same idea.

The festivities will continue into early February, when we hold a fashion show and announce some other exciting developments at A Tangled Skein. We hope to see you soon!

We Swapped!

Last night was the first meeting in the year 2008 for the Guild, and we saw lots of new faces mixed in with our old friends. Those who came were greeted by our 'Welcome Table' that had fresh baked cookies as well as membership forms and other guild information.

Two door prizes were given out last night. Every meeting in 2008 will have a drawing for a door prize. The winner must be a member of the guild in good standing who is in attendance that evening. January winners were Miss Judy and Miss Sheila.

After some short business announcements, we moved right into the swap. Members brought yarn and other related knitting items that they no longer wanted, and left with items they did want. What a great way to bust your stash and go shopping for free!

We got a chance to make some new friends as well as be inspired by some great projects during a 'get to know you session'. Many of our new visitors to the guild joined our membership by the end of the meeting, and we are glad to have them!

Next up for the guild is a Super Bowl 'pre-game knit' on Feb. 3rd from 1-3pm at the Daily Grind in Fulton, MD. The first 21 knitters to arrive with an NFL logo will receive a small gift. Bring a friend along who has never been to the guild!

Our next meeting will be Wednesday February 2oth from 7-9pm. We will be having a hands on entralac class presented by Miss Margaret. We will still be accepting membership forms at this meeting, so feel free to join us if you are not yet a member.

Don't forget the Felted Clog class being presented this Saturday at the Lakeside Cafe from 10am-4pm. See you there.

January Meeting Reminder

This Wednesday January 16 from 7-9 pm we will be hosting the first meeting of the new year. This means that you can pick up your 2008 membership card when you pay your dues at this meeting. Everyone paying their $20 at this month's meeting will also be receiving a $5 off coupon for The Blue Star Grill in Arundel Mills Mall!

This month we are doing our semi-annual swap night. Remember to bring all your yarn, patterns, notions, magazines, books, etc that you would like to swap with other guild members.

For those of us taking the felted clog class on January 19th, here is the supply list.

Women's Medium

Needles: US size 13, 24" and 16" circular needles

Yarn should be 100% wool so that it will felt. (Inexpensive wool, like Lion Brand Wool works great. Be sure that you do not get any "superwash" wools, as these will not felt.)

One Color Clog Yarn: 540 yards per pair. This yardage allows for yarn to be held double throughout. If you are using a bulky yarn like Lopi, you will only need half as much.

Two Color Clog Yarn: 180 yards of top color and 360 yards of bottom color. Again, this is yardage to be held double. If you are using a bulky yarn you will only need half as much.

Cabin Fever???????

Today's Cabin Fever Sit 'n Knit at the Daily Grind in Fulton, Maryland had us all saying, "Wow, it's hot!" So much for needing all those hats, mittens, and scarves in the immediate future. It was a wonderful day to be out and about however, and we had a great turnout for our first monthly gathering.

A variety of projects were being worked on today, but socks seemed to be the most popular. Those of us who stuck to the warm and woolly theme were very warm to say the least.

Many of today's participants paid their 2008 membership fee for the guild and began using their membership cards for a 15% discount on their food and beverages today.

2008 Central Maryland Knitting Guild Membership Cards will start being distributed at the next guild meeting on Wed. Jan. 16th from 7-9pm. This is a new project for the guild and we are thrilled with the response so far. Every member of the guild will receive a membership card when they pay their dues, and these cards will be good for discounts at many Local Yarn Shops as well as area businesses. The Membership Cards are just a small part of how your membership dues will reward you in the coming year.

Cabin Fever Sit'N Knit

In order to get to spend more knitting time together, we are offering a Central Maryland Knitting Guild Cabin Fever Sit 'n Knit on Sunday January 6th from 1-3 pm at the Daily Grind coffee shop in Fulton Maryland.

A sit'n knit will offer Guild members another way to connect with one another outside of the Guild meetings. Also, anyone interested in finding out more about the Guild is encouraged to come to the sit 'n knit and get to know us in a friendly environment. The Daily Grind is participating in our 2008 membership card program and has offered the guild members 15% off all food and beverage purchases!

Our first gathering has a Cabin Fever theme to encourage us to get working on those hats, mittens, and scarves we couldn't get done due to all of our holiday knitting. The Daily Grind even has a fireplace to go with our theme. What a great way to unwind after the holidays.

December Meeting

The next meeting of the Central Maryland Knitting Guild will take place on December 19th at 7pm. This will be a Holiday Party so bring a goodie to share with the gang (I was talking about food, but yarn is always good, too!) Elections for the 2008 officials will also take place at this meeting.

This has been a wonderful year for the Central Maryland Knitting Guild and we would like to take the time to thank those who have served on the 2007 Board of Directors. Some of the contributions were informative programs, a guild Knit-A-Long, a road trip to The Mannings for both the Spinning Event and The Knitting Event, yarn swaps, participation in the 2007 Knit-A-Thon for area charities, support of this year's Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, and the conception of this very blog you are reading right now! Wow!

As busy a year as it has been, we are looking forward to the new adventures that the 2008 calendar year will bring for the Guild. Already new programs are being planned, as well as yarn crawls, road trips to The Mannings events again, and new membership cards that will give you discounts at Local Yarn Stores and other area businesses. We are focused in the new year to expanding our membership to welcome area knitters to join us and experience the benefits of joining The Central Maryland Knitting Guild.

Steeks!

During the second part of our November meeting, Miss Cathy put together a great program on cutting our knitting. (I know, it makes my stomach turn, too.) No one fainted during the program, but perhaps that was because Miss Cathy was the only one doing damage to her well knit stitches.

The pattern is for a Teddy Bear sweater and it came from the DIY Network.
This is what the reverse side looks like after the stitches have been sewn together. The extra blue shoulder stitches hide the area that has been sewn on the sewing machine.
Here is the right side of the project. Way to go Miss Cathy!

Nov. Meeting Brown Bag

This month we took pictures of some of the things we do at the Central Maryland Knitting Guild.

A couple of months ago, the members of the Guild picked brown bags full of yarn to take home and knit something from the yarn. We could add to the yarn from our own stash if we needed to complete our items. This month, we brought back some of the completed items to show off, and here are some of the finished projects!

Two of our talented members knitted Teddy Bear outfits. One even came with Bloomers!

There were also two baby hats for the little ones.

We even had a felted hat for a bigger person as well.

Great work ladies!

Next post will show off the great program that Miss Cathy put together for us about Steeks. For those of you with weaker stomachs, I will let you know ahead of time that knitting was in fact cut during this process.

Our next meeting will be Wednesday December 19th at 7 pm. Plan on joining us for some holiday cheer!

Sock Wars Update

Congrats to our very own Miss Beth for being one of only 16 sock warriors still alive in the 2007 Sock Wars. Knitters from around the world have been knitting socks as their weapons since October 12th and sending them to their targets. A warrior is "dead" when they receive a pair of socks. Miss Beth has outlasted hundreds of knitters and we wish her luck as the war nears the end!

Michaels is having its annual Warm Up America, Put Together Party on Saturday, November 17th from 4pm to 6pm.That's the Michaels at Arundel Mills. Anyone is welcome to come and join the fun. If you can't get there, then drop knitted and crocheted squares (actually 7"by9") rectangles at the store. There will be a bin or a basket to collect them. The more the merrier! The patterns are online on The Craft Yarn Coucil's Warm Up America website forboth knitters and crocheters.They are put together to help the poor and homeless this winter.

I wanted to forward the e-mail I recieved from 'Tangled Skein' today. Sounds like fun!

Our Friday the Thirteenth events have been wildly popular, and we’re often asked when the next one will take place. Unfortunately, the next time Friday falls on the thirteenth of the month is June 2008, and that’s just too long to wait.So we’re going to be doing a little . . . rearrangement of the calendar. On Friday, Nov. 9, we’re going to declare that the year is 1998, the last time there was a Friday the Thirteenth in November. Just think: Bill Clinton is president, the Backstreet Boys are wildly popular, Saving Private Ryan is the top-grossing film. What a year!There will be the usual Friday the Thirteenth features: great refreshments, an evening-long sit-and-knit, and, from 9 p.m. to midnight, a pre-holiday sale. Everything in the shop except classes and gift certificates will be 20 percent off.Join us this Friday, Nov. 9, when we go back to the twentieth century and party like it’s 1998.

November is for Steeks

The program for November 28 is a steek project using the DIY Norwegian Teddy Bear Sweater pattern. The Dale Heilo yarn mentioned in the pattern is a dk weight wool.

I'd like to cut the steeks at the meeting, so that means we have some homework to do. We need to knit the body and the sleeves before the meeting. The body is 35 rows over 80 stitches and the sleeves are 22 rows over 44 stitches. Both are knit in the round. Use a sewing machine to reinforce the area before we cut.

The sweater is really cute. I found if you click on the pictures in the pattern, you will get a larger image of the chart, etc. I also put the chart in Excel for my mature eyesight. If you need a copy, let me know.

Thank you to Miss Cathy for giving us a great program on button holes Wednesday night. The hand outs were great. Who knew there were so many ways to make holes on purpose in my knitting.

Wed. 10/17 Meeting

Now that Stitches East is behind us, we can all look forward to learning a new way to buttonholes in all of the yarn we purchased this weekend. This Wed. evening at 7pm we will have a program presented by Miss Cathy to learn a variety of buttonhole techniques. It should be great!

Speaking of Stitches East, did you see all of the yarn kits for the Baby Surprise Jacket on sale??? They were everywhere you looked! Almost made me want to knit a third one. Almost.

The group knitting blanket that was at the Knit-A-Thon will also be at the Guild meeting this month, so if anyone would like to work on it they can. This blanket works by having four knitters knit in the round at the same time. The blanket will be donated to Howard County Habitat for Humanity when it is completed.

Baby Surprise Jacket Photos

We stuck it out. We grumbled, we groaned, we laughed, we blogged, we ripped, and we cast on again. Some members even made two sweaters. And here are some photos of the amazing results of our EZ baby surprise sweater knitalong. We used sock, dk, sport and worsted weight yarns and we think we all followed the pattern.

Knit-a-Thon drop off info

October is a busy month, and I know ALOT of other charity events are being held on Saturday Oct. 6th. If you are involved in another event on Saturday, but still have items to donate to the Knit-A-Thon, please bring your hand knit or crochet items to the K1P2 Sit 'n Knit on Thursday night at the Lakeside Cafe between 5:30-8pm. Plan to stay and knit if you like, or just come and drop off your donations.

Items for the FISH Food Pantry will also be accepted on Thursday evening. (Hint: the dollar store is a great place to pick up alot of the food pantry items if you do not already have extra in your home)

I'm so excited to see all of you in the next couple of days! If you haven't started any charity projects for the event yet, just think preemie hats or little hand mits for the babies so they don't scratch themselves. Tiny and quick!!!

Road Trip

Fire on Main Street

Orphan Knitting

For those of us heading off to Stitches East this year (Oct 11-14), they have a new charity to knit for. Children in Common provides orphanages in Eastern Europe and Russia with hand knit items for children from 6 months to sixteen. The project is called OK (Orphan Knitting) and delivers kids lovingly knit socks, sweaters, vests, hats and mittens.

Here's how you can help!

Knit-N-Bring: Using any sock or cap pattern and any natural fiber, knit or crochet your garment(s) and bring them to the STITCHES East 2007 Market. Donations will be accepted at Booth # 89.

2007 Knit-A-Thon

It's that time of year again! Saturday October 6th is the date for the second annual Knit-A-Thon held at The Lakeside Cafe in Columbia's Town Center. The event will run from 10am-4pm and will collect hand knit and crochet items to be distributed to various charities in the community. The event also serves to unite the members of the local needle arts community.

What could possibly make knitting and crocheting for charity more rewarding? Prizes of course! Everyone who donates completed knit or crochet items and drops them off at the collection table during the Knit-A-Thon will be given a raffle ticket for door prizes donated by local yarn stores and businesses. Prizes will be drawn every half hour. Winners must be present to win.

There will also be contests. There will be a prize awarded to the person who donates the most items to the Knit-A-Thon, as well as prizes for the best pet blanket, best baby hat, best pink scarf, and more! These prizes will be awarded at 3pm.

The wonderful staff of A Good Yarn in Fells Point will be present at his year's event to help out with a team knitting blanket (Thank you sooo much ladies!). Four knitters sit in a circle and work on the same blanket at the same time. If you have never done this before, you will love it! (This picture was taken at the 2005 Washington DC Knit-In.)

Wednesday night September 19th is the next meeting of the Central Maryland Knitting Guild. We will meet at 7pm and will be having a program on Spinning. Feel free to bring your wheels and spindles if you already spin, and just bring yourself if you are interested in learning more about it.

We also will be showing our Elizabeth Zimmermann Baby Surprise Jackets that we started at last month's meeting. I'm sure we will be seeing the jackets in all stages since I know members who are almost finished and I also know members who are ripping their jacket out and starting over. It's never too late to join the knitalong!

Are you aware, my fiber loving friends, that our local public broadcasting stations have multiple knitting shows available to them to schedule into their weekly programming? (Some such shows are Needle Arts Studio and Knit & Crochet Today.) Are you aware that every local public broadcasting station programs it's own schedule? Are you aware that the Maryland/Virginia/DC public broadcasting stations choose NOT to schedule these shows for our viewing pleasure at 4am or any other time? Are you aware that MPT schedules a show on how to play GIN RUMMY instead????

Here's how to help! Click to voice your opinion. Send them e-mails telling them we want our knitting shows and we want them THIS FALL! (Hey- it worked for MTV when we were kids, it can work for us now.) Let your fiber friends know how they can make a difference, too.

EZ's Baby Surprise Jacket

Last night we started our Knitalong and it was great to see all of the different yarns that everyone had chosen for the project. Remember to post any questions or comments about the project as you are working on it, so that we can all help each other along the way. Also you can publish pictures of your finished garment here on the blog for us to ooh and aah over. These great baby items will probably be given as gifts before we can see them in person, so let us see how they turn out!

A quick note about a yarn store... 'The Tangled Skein' in Hyattsville will be closed next week so that the landlord can do repairs. They expect to reopen Aug. 28th, but call before you go just in case they aren't done.

Sit 'N Spin!

The 'Knitters Nest' in Eldersburg is hosting a Spinning Time on the second Sunday of each month from 1-4pm. The next gathering will be on Sunday August 12th.

We are having a fundraiser for the SOS project for Howard County General Hospital. We will be having raffles, silent auctions and pink treats from 2:00-6:00pm! You will also have the chance to sign up and be a member of our "Race for the Cure" team. We are having a "Sleep in for the Cure" team this year. Details at the shop.

Help us launch our "100 Scarves in 100 Days" campaign. The Celtic Knot is donating 100 scarf kits to be made from now until mid October. You may pick up a kit while supplies last. There is no charge! Sign out a kit and return it to us - it is that easy to help! You may also purchase yarn to make your own scarf for donation as well. All money raised will be directly donated to the SOS project to help purchase items for patient recovery gift bags.

Some items we have for auction are: signed books from Nicki Epstien (along with a signed knitting bag!!), The Yarn Girls, Stefanie Japel, and many more.

Survivors Offering Support (SOS) is an all-volunteer organization of breast cancer survivors who have dedicated a portion of their valuable time to help recently diagnosed women through the ordeal of treatment and recovery. Each volunteer must complete a four-step training process that begins at the hospital, where doctors brief them on treatment options and the pathology of the disease. The local SOS organization supports Howard County General Hospital and The Center for Breast Care in Columbia, Maryland.

As part of their efforts to guide patients through the recovery journey, SOS provides recovery gift bags delivered by SOS volunteers to each breast cancer patient on the day of their surgery. The bags are filled with useful and needed gifts from local and national businesses. Included in these bags are beautiful handmade pink scarves. These scarves are made by our customers and soon by my daughter's Brownie Troop.

Thank you so much for donating your time to such a wonderful cause. This devastating disease touches the lives of almost every family. Many of you know that this disease has affected my life as I have lost many friends and family members, especially my mother. It provides great comfort knowing that we are still out here helping to find a cure. And as always, I hope one day we won't have to.

July Meeting

The next meeting of the Central Maryland Knitting Guild is July 18th at 7pm. We will be having a Swap Night. Bring the yarn, patterns, magazines, books needles or knick-knacks that you no longer want, and take home something that someone else brings in. The left-overs will be given to charity.

Don't forget to bring in your finished projects to show off! We can't wait to see what you've been busy doing this summer.

Feel free to invite your friends, neighbors or coworkers that knit to come along and see what the Central Maryland Knitting Guild is all about!

Hello all!

I just wanted to remind everyone that Sat. June 9th from 10am-4pm is the 39th Annual Spinning Seminar at the Mannings in East Berlin, PA. It is a rain or shine event that is free and does not require registration. There will be lots of demonstrations as well as a Spinning Bee, so don't forget to bring your wheel or spindle.

Guest blogger here and a novice at that. Let's see how this thing works!

We gather together the 3rd Wed. of each month for knitting/fiber camaraderie, some expansion of our knitting horizons and uninterrupted time to sit and knit. In the time between these monthly gatherings, you might find me hanging out with fun fiber folk at All About Yarn on Wednesday nights or the Lakeside Cafe on Thursday nights. Where might I find you?

CMKG can communicate other than 3rd Wed of the month. At the May 16 meeting we shared what we bought and did at MD Sheep & Wool. Jackie met some knitting guild members from other states and she also won a ribbon. Looks like we're going to be knitting lots of socks from Tess and STR and who knows what from Little Barn bargains. If you didn't make the meeting, tell us what you found. And the old RV found its way home once again.
